Six churches gathered across the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, from Mooi River to Balgowan — farming districts, villages and towns along the Midlands Meander — one parish family in the Diocese of Natal, Anglican Church of Southern Africa.
“I was glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord.’” Psalm 122:1
The Parish of Mooi River covers a large area of the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands between Mooi River and Balgowan, extending east and west alongside the N3 — a region of great natural beauty along the Midlands Meander, but also one with areas of real poverty and social need. We worship in English and isiZulu across five active congregations — St Mary's in Bruntville, All Saints at Nottingham Road, St George's at Rosetta, St Peter's in the Kamberg, and St Raphael's at Zenzane Village near Michaelhouse — with our parish church of St Paul in Mooi River, home to the parish office.
Whether you have worshipped here all your life or are visiting for the first time, there is a place for you at one of our churches this Sunday.

On the corner of the R103 and the Loteni Road. Built of red brick in 1931 on ground donated by Col E M Greene of Spring Grove, and consecrated by Bishop Leonard Noel Fisher; part of this parish since 1962. Find us on the map →

St Mary's carries forward the name of the original 1903 church at Highlands, and was built largely from materials salvaged from it — a living link with more than a century of Anglican worship in the district.
Our congregation at Zenzane Village near Michaelhouse, gathering every Sunday for worship in the Balgowan district.

A quaint red-brick church with its bell tower, consecrated in 1949 — the fruit of a trust fund begun in 1906 and revived by a new generation of parishioners after the Second World War.

A rustic stone church under an iron roof in the shadow of the Drakensberg, built on farmland donated by Henry Lang and consecrated in 1907 by Bishop Baines — 91 souls attended its first service.

Corner of Stirling Terrace and Lawrence Road. Built in traditional English style and consecrated in 1941, St Paul's has been the parish church since 1952 and is home to the parish office. Read its history →
Greetings in the name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Welcome to the Anglican Parish of Mooi River.
We are a family of faith, united in Christ and drawn from different communities, cultures and languages. Together, we gather to worship and pray, to listen to God's Word, to share in the sacraments and to encourage one another as we seek to grow in faith and serve the communities around us.
I hope that these pages will give you a glimpse of our parish life and the faith we share. Whether you have been part of the Church for many years, are visiting the Midlands, or are simply beginning to explore the Christian faith, there is a place for you here.
It would be a joy to welcome you.
The Revd Bronwyn Kirk Rector, Anglican Parish of Mooi River

Anglicans mark the great moments of life with the sacraments — outward and visible signs of God's inward and spiritual grace. Please speak to the Rector about preparation for any of the following.
The sacrament of new birth, by which children and adults are welcomed into the family of Christ's Church. Preparation classes are held for parents and godparents.
The laying on of hands by the Bishop, in which those baptised affirm the promises of their baptism and are strengthened by the Holy Spirit.
The Eucharist is the heart of our Sunday worship — Christ's gift of himself in bread and wine, nourishing us for lives of service.
Weddings may be celebrated in any of our churches. Couples meet with the Rector for marriage preparation; please make contact well in advance.
Private confession with a priest is available to any who seek the assurance of God's forgiveness and counsel for the journey of faith.
Prayer and anointing with oil for healing and peace. The Rector gladly brings Communion and prayer to those who are ill or housebound — please let us know.
We walk with families in times of loss, commending loved ones to God's keeping with hope in the resurrection. Contact the Rector or churchwardens at any time.
This Mandela Day the parish is collecting for two causes: 67 blankets for local schools to keep children warm in their classrooms, and support for the Mooi River & District SPCA — old blankets, towels, or dog and cat food for shelter animals.
Bring your donation to All Saints, Nottingham Road, this Sunday 12 July at 9:00 am,
or drop it off during the week at PostNet, Nottingham Road. Please label it clearly
“Nelson Mandela Day – Parish of Mooi River – SCHOOL” or “…– SPCA”. Our goal:
67 blankets by Saturday 18 July, and a bakkie filled for the SPCA.

On the third Sunday of each month, the 9 am service at All Saints, Nottingham Road is a Family Service — children and visitors especially welcome.
Your giving sustains worship across our six churches, the soup kitchen and our outreach in the community. To join our planned giving scheme, please speak to Jo Groesser or the churchwardens.
